Kat Philips

Co-Creator, Lead

During her PhD at the University of Bath, Kat worked alongside Patrick Nairne to develop PhDYourWay - trying to break down the knowledge barriers she herself felt when applying for a PhD. Now working as an Innovation Research Associate (InRA) at the Centre for Applications of Mathematical and Computing Sciences (CAMaCS) at the University of Warwick, she was able to secure funding from the EDIHub+ to develop the year long scale-up initative ResearchYourWay, which has been helping secure PhdYourWay in the academic landscape.

Outside of her work with PyW her role as an InRA involves impact driven research, and taking a lead on outreach and public engagement initiatives, motivated by her freelance career as a science communicator under the name ‘KatDoesMaths’.

Addie Baker

Digital Specialist

Addie Baker is a PhD student in the SAMBa CDT at the University of Bath. Their research focuses on the study of heterogenous drug environments within patients undergoing treatment for tuberculosis and how this can be exploited to engineer regimes which minimise drug exposure while still achieving suitable bacterial clearance and preventing the emergence of drug resistance.

Alongside their research, Addie leads “Behind the Research”, an outreach initiative founded by Kat Phillips in 2022 to showcase the daily lives of PhD students in an attempt to demystify the world of academia; and is the Digital Communication Specialist for the Research Your Way initiative where they coordinate with students, academics, and institutions to organise free to attend, virtual events focused on highlighting the lived experiences of individuals in academia.

Alisha Rogers

ResearchYourWay: Evaluation Specialist

Alisha Rodgers is a Research Fellow in Engineering Education at the School of Engineering, University of Warwick. Her research utilises quantitative and qualitative methodologies to examine equity and the barriers experienced across the STEM educational pathway. She completed her doctoral degree investigating disparities in student academic attainment, with a particular focus on undergraduate engineering student experiences in UK higher education, and its associations with ethnic heritage.

Currently, her research examines equity of opportunity in early years education, investigating how early engineering skills are recognised amongst families and nursery practitioners. Alongside her fellowship, Alisha is an Evaluation Specialist for the Research Your Way initiative, analysing the barriers that restrict access to STEM academic pathways.
